When should I apply?

For top priority & positions that require extensive application processes
Complete course in Turn in Application Material by
  Fall 1st week of March
  Spring 1st week of October
  Summer 1st week of February

Do you accept late applications?

Yes, late applications are accepted, but they will not receive priority agency placement and are subject to placement availability.  We will accept late applications until 2 weeks before the semester.

If my dad is employed by the Fish & Game Department and I want to complete my work with that agency can I contact them since I personally know the contacts?

Please do not contact the agencies; all placements are made by the coordinator.

Why do I have to complete the Field Practicum?

The field experience can be one of the most informative and rewarding activities of your undergraduate years.  It is professionally rewarding and beneficial to the organization, offering the student the opportunity to blend theory and practice.  The experience gained, the contacts made, and the letter of recommendation provided by the agency at the end of the experience can all prove invaluable.

What if I already work in the Criminal Justice field?

You can waive the course with one year of full time experience.

I am having difficulties with the agency I was placed and I want to quit.  What should I do?

Please do not hesitate to contact the coordinator for ANY reason.  The Internship and Field Work Coordinator is Bob Marsh, 426-3451 or e-mail him at  bmarsh@boisestate.edu. It is important that the department is aware of problems with any agencies.  The required class meets weekly allowing for communication with the Coordinator.  This course is treated as any other regular session course with drop and withdraw dates.

How do I register for all 6 field practicum credits in one semester?

Register for CJA 491 (3 credits) and CJA 492 (3 credits).

What is the difference between registering for an internship and field practicum?

The University allows students to apply up to 12 credits of Intership to graduation requirements.  Discuss with the Peer Advisor how many credits can be applied for the upper division Criminal Justice courses for the catalog you are following.

What is meant  by ‘variable credits’ for Internship?

The internship, CJA 293 or CJA 493, is worth 1-6 credits.  You choose how many credits to register for by your availability.  You must complete 50 hours in an agency setting for each credit.  See you advisor to verify how many credits will be eligible towards your graduation plan.
